Lake Tahoe: Horseback Riding, Bikes, and Beaches
September 24, 2016September 17th, 2016: Lake Tahoe, one of my favorite places in the US!
After being sick, I finally felt 100% arriving to Lake Tahoe. I worked a job here in June 2015 and fell in love with the lake and the towns surrounding the lake. I knew I needed to come back someday and experience it without my ‘work goggles’ on. I feel like if I were to create the perfect town for myself to live in, it might be one of the towns that surrounds Lake Tahoe.
We drove about 5 hours north from Yosemite and arrived in South Lake Tahoe at around 3pm on a Saturday. The weather was perfect, and we were thrilled to be in a town with lots of food options and civilization.
On our first day, we went horseback riding at a beautiful corral a few miles outside of town. I rode a sweet old girl named Penny and Carrie rode a cutie named Ruby. The corrals horses seemed happy, healthy and sweet which made me happy.
The trail was gorgeous, and the sun shone through the trees the entire ride. It was hard to get good pics while on horseback, but I managed a few:
After a lovely ride we went to lunch at Sprouts, a local vegetarian cafe and had some delicious soups and smoothies. It was so good, that we actually ended up eating here a few times (oops- sorry wallet!).
We hung around and did some relaxing until dinner time and then drove 45 minutes up the coast to a nice little town called Incline Village in Nevada. We ate dinner on a patio, weather was still perfect, and then took off for my favorite beach, Sand Harbor.
In typical Christine and Carrie fashion, before making it to the beach we got stuck in a 5 star hotel parking lot. As you know we are driving a cargo van, which is big and chunky and overall not easy to maneuver. Anyways, I thought the lot was a good place to turn around so that’s what I tried to do. Well, it wasn’t, and while trying to turn around, we attracted the attention of 2 bell boys and a lovely family whose minivan we were not blocking. I’m sure they thought we were a couple of hippie stoners in our colorful van, but we just could not stop laughing, and eventually got out.
On to beach photos:
Needless to say, Sand Harbor beach is absolutely dreamy. (The last image is an unedited photo of the beach from further away).
The next day we did some shopping, and then took a really nice bike ride along the coast.
We stopped at a beach called Kiva beach (above), and then walked through the first settlement town of Lake Tahoe. I’m a major sucker for that type of stuff and I probably bored Carrie out of her mind, but it was one of my favorite things to see while I was in Lake Tahoe. :P
For dinner we ate at delicious German restaurant up on the mountain side called Himmel Haus, where I had some to-die-for Schnitzel, and then went to bed.
We had a really nice time in Lake Tahoe, and I still feel like there is so much to do, so, till next time Lake Tahoe!
Peace and Blessings,
Christine
